The Adversity Adventurer – record-breaking adventurer, Everest avalanche survivor, author and mental health charity founder

Alex Staniforth is a record-breaking adventurer, ultra-endurance athlete, author and charity founder from Cheshire who has never taken the conventional path to the top. At just 26 he is no stranger to adversity, having survived two of the biggest disasters in Mount Everest history as a teenager, raised over £100,000 for charity and published two books, Icefall and Another Peak. In 2017 he became the fastest person ever to climb all 100 UK county tops, covering over 5,000 miles in 72 days by human power, winning a Pride of Britain Fundraiser of the Year award. In 2020 he ran the National Three Peaks Challenge - climbing the UK’s three highest peaks and running 452 miles between them in just 9 days 12 hours. As shared in a keynote for the Moving Ahead International Men’s Day summit in 2021, Alex has openly suffered with depression, anxiety and eating disorders as a young man. Inspired by the stigma and lack of support available, Alex founded Mind Over Mountains, a charity to restore mental well-being through outdoor experiences.
